Cloth Diaper Organization- How to Keep Cloth Diapers Organized

There are many different pieces when it comes to cloth diapering. The inserts, wipes, Snappis, covers, all the things. I’m here to tell you, they won’t always be tidy. Cloth diaper organization can be an extra task to do, but it will make the actual diaper change MUCH easier. So having a good cloth diaper organization system is a great foundation to give your self, and your baby, a successful, quick and easy diaper change.

If you have the luxury of only using all-in-ones then more power to you. However, I don’t think most people have that ability. Even so, there are still plenty of extras needed for cloth diaper organization.

Wet bags, detergent, powder. Actually, even if you use disposables, there are a lot of things needed. So maybe this can be helpful to disposable diaper users too! Yay!

How to keep cloth diapers organized

It all begins with the laundry. When putting away the cloth diaper laundry, this is where the cloth diaper organization starts. I throw everything in one basket and dedicate that basket alone to that laundry. No towels or pants go in there because occasionally the lone sock or pair of underwear find their way into that lid. It’s just inevitable.

Getting started with cloth diaper organization

The best rule of thumb that I use is to keep like with like. Wipes go in a wipe pile. Night time inserts go in their own pile. Prefolds go with prefolds. Makes enough sense, yeah?

Once everything is sorted, then you can pre-stuff and prefold the cloth diapers.

I don’t bother folding wipes. I used to fold them and keep them all pretty looking but the reality is that in the heat of the diaper change they get messed up anyway. A simple pile of wipes will do.

I pre stuff my night time diapers as well so I’m not wasting extra time at night. Let’s face it, we all know bed time can sometimes be a hot mess.

Keeping them tidy

I put all my accessories in a random plastic bin I had. It has since been broken by my wild boys so it’s not in the pictures.

Nonetheless, all the changing supplies- powder, water, snappis, cream- are in one corner of the basket.

The wipes are right there too. Giving me access to all wiping necessities.

Then all my diapers are just right there to grab and pre stuffed, ready for action.

All my prefolds and covers are in the separate basket with their respective covers. Underneath them hide my spare wetbags and few extra inserts if I need them.

I hang my dirty diaper wet bag in our front closet tucked away so it’s not just out in the living room.

What to put cloth diapers in to keep them organized

Three tier basket system- I used this for my first and my second and recently retired it simply because there was too much furniture in our living room. It’s become my temporary night stand until I find the one I want secondhand.

There are always these kinds of baskets at Tj Max type stores, Walmart or online. I was lucky enough to find one on Marketplace I liked and snagged it. A metal one like this is simple or even a plastic drawer system, like this, would work.

Large basket system- this is what I use now. I’ve got a ton of large baskets that are beautiful and fit in my bookshelf.

These could easily be placed under the couch or under a coffee or end table too. The key is to have a place where they’re easily accessible to lay a child down and change them. I lay my babe down on the rug and eliminated the mat I used to use. That now lives in the zero waste diaper bag.

Using what you have for cloth diaper organization

We don’t always need to buy brand new or anything expensive. I’ve had these current baskets for years and before I found a three-tiered basket, I had a metal one my mom was about to throw away. Drawers in a dresser or end table would even work.

Think of this as an opportunity to be creative and pretend to be Marie Kondo with it.

Overall, having ANY aspect of our life organized makes it a little easier, a little more beautiful, and that in turn will allow our minds to follow suit.

I’ve tried a few different systems and methods; this is simply what works for me and my family.

Some days the cloth diapers will be a mess in the basket, drawer, whatever is containing them, will come undone. If it doesn’t ever happen to you, let me know in the comments because I need to know your secret!

In gratitude,

Tayler
