I know we all kick ourselves for how much screen time we have and how much binging happens these days. However, there’s an easy way to actually use that screen time productively. Maybe even learn some new things in the process!

All of these apps are free and available for IOS and Android, if that’s changed please leave some feedback and I’ll update this!

Phone Facts

We check our phones every 12 minutes

The average person has so many app on they’re phone.Research shows that there are between 60 and 90 apps installed on the average smartphone. But with that said, people aren’t using all of those apps.
Here’s a deeper look at how many apps people really use.

The majority of mobile time is spent using three apps.

The average screen time is over four hours a day on their device.

Google search is 3 million. Per second. Holy crap.

Why not make simple switches that can put all that phone time into something helpful for the environment and support local causes?

Eco Friendly Apps

All of these are free and you do have to make an account for a couple of them!

Ecosia– this has replaced google/safari on my phone. Your searches help to fund the planting of trees!

Trash Nothing– locally based, this one is like the free section of Craigslist but it literally has everything under the sun that your local zero wasters dont want to..well … waste!

Better World – this app has a list of companies, as many as you can think of, and rates them from A-F on sustainable practices, ethical employment, those sort of aspects.

Think Dirty – all my beauty product lovers out there this is for you! This shows you the cleanest products and most natural of the commercial products out there. Similar to better world concept.

Drop Counter– unfortunately this app isn’t available for all utility companies but you are able to put in a request to be a part of this program. This will tell you if you’ve got leaks, where there’s water waste and excess (like long showers etc).

Plant Snap & Picture This – these are both the same thing. You guessed it! Plant identification! This is very helpful when out in nature and you’re curious about all the beautiful greenery around you.

Wellness Apps

Farmers Market– this gives you a list of all the local farmers markets and sometimes farm stands in your area! I believe you can also submit ones that aren’t listed!

The Moon– a simple moon tracker that tells you everything from the phase to the zodiac to other insights! I enjoy knowing info like this because it helps me as a woman to stay in sync.

Charity Miles– another given in the name! When you sign up for charity miles, you can choose your charity to get stepping for! You can also donate and sign pledges!

Mindfulness Apps

Insight Timer – a wonderful meditation app complete with sounds, guided meditations and other lectures available about mindfulness!

Plum Village– this fantastic collection is recorded talks by the monks of Plum Village. If you’ve ever heard of Thich Nhat Hanh.. this is basically his teachings in app form.

Done-I’m not sure if I would call this a ‘mindfulness’ app specifically but it does keep you mindful of your habits, healthy or unhealthy. It’s a habit tracker that allows you to be accountable to yourself. The free version only has three habits to start off but you can purchase unlimited for an affordable yearly rate!

What do you think are the most used apps on your phone? Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!

In gratitude, Tayler
