This last week I’ve felt like such a lump of blah. Y’all know what I mean. You’re in your head, you’re throwing that self pity party, you’re in that negative rut… again. Some days are harder to get out of your head than others. Here I share my favorite simple ways that I get out of my head and reset my mood.
It happens. Life comes in waves like that, which is not fun or easy, but we can make it something to serve our betterment. We can remember our ‘surfing lessons’ and ride of the waves of life! Yes, some waves are bigger than others but that’s how we get better at navigating the waters.

Keep calm to carry on
What I tell myself when I’m feeling those blues is to just relax, don’t fight it and that this is happening FOR me, not TO me. On the other side there’s sun again and the shift in perspective that I need.
The few things that I do are simple and bring me joy. These may not be the same as yours but they always work! You’re welcome to try!
My simple yet favorite methods
Turn on my music – YOUR music, not your kids favorite sing along or just whatever’s on the radio. The songs that make you want to sing and dance and feel!
Go outside, for more than ten minutes! – I’m guilty of just stepping outside and saying ‘okay I went outside, I’m good’…. noooo you’re not little lady. Even if you’re in a bunch of blankets and your kid refuses to put shoes on, bring it all outside (they’ll want those shoes if their toes get cold!)
Make my favorite beverage – seems silly at first but it is so nourishing to sit down and enjoy a fancy coffee or tea or smoothie. You’ll just have to take my word for it!
Lay flat on my back for five minutes– another that sounds silly but we spend 2/3 of our day being vertical and feeling the heaviness of gravity. To combat that by laying on our back can give us a moment to realign, recirculate and relax. Let’s be honest taking a little rest is what we all need!
I invite you to write down a bunch of your favorite things that make you smile, go through that list when you’re feeling low and see which ones are the most effective. Maybe drinking water or going for a run? Maybe a hot shower or seeing some friends?
Everyone’s different but knowing what works for YOU, and recognizing when your down can help to get back up again even when it feels like we can’t.
I feel you.
I see you.
