If your mother is anything like mine, my heart goes out to you. My mom is at the stage of her life where she has no children living at home, works her butt off still, vacations whenever she wants, and buys what she likes any time she desires. She doesn’t NEED anything. Except, maybe a visit from her favorite daughter across the country! However, since I’m working toward a less consumerist mindset I’ve been getting her experiences over physical stuff. These are the eco-friendly gift ideas for Mother’s Day that I almost always consider for my own mom. I’ll even throw in some physical gifts that perhaps haven’t crossed your mind yet!
Eco friendly, yet minimalist, gift ideas
- Mimosas and breakfast. Bringing a picnic basket over with mimosas and breakfast sandwiches plus a picnic blanket would be so fun and a cute surprise! It’s always nice to be surprised with a homemade meal and picnic no matter who you are or the time of year.
- A framed picture of your favorite moment together. Plus, a little letter about the memory. Your favorite part, why it was so great, what you remember most about it. She may cry. I know my mother would!
- Something handmade like fabric bowl covers or a watercolor you tried on youtube. I’ve made bowl covers before but I’ve never tried a watercolor. Bob Ross makes it look so easy, why couldn’t us simple folks try it too? Handmade things, especially useful, are something she can use and makes her think of you when she does. How you thought of her while making them, and made them special, just for her on Mother’s Day.
- Spa day and facial. It is just plain nice to pamper yourself sometimes. Especially as a mother of young kids like me, I’d love to do this with my mother. I don’t know if I’ve ever actually done a ‘spa’ type day before. Maybe one day!
- Manicure/pedicure gift card. Always a good one for moms. My mama likes to look polished and have her nails done any time of the year. I just ask her which salon she likes to go to because most women who do that have a specific place they like best.
- Botanical garden tickets. This is just a great ‘get outdoors’ gift. A nice walk through beautifully curated flowers and plants is such a delight. Supporting local horticulture is always a win win!
- A new fitness class like Pilates or barre. Some moms this may not be for. Just an idea I always think about for my mother because she likes to be active and she enjoys Pilates and doing new workouts occasionally!
- Her favorite chocolates or treat. I am a big fan of consumables as a gift. What is a better gift than feeding someone? Especially a delicious baked good or dark chocolate!
What I love about these ‘minimalist’ gift ideas is that they can all be done with mom. Togetherness and good company has always been a valued gift to me, so I’d love to be able give that to my own mother more. But a Facetime date will do for now!
My mother is very sentimental and loves when I write her letters or make something for her. She appreciates the thought even though I’m almost 30 and still making gift for her!
Thankfully, I’ve leveled up from the painted pencil holder and bird house she still has in her home somewhere.
These days I don’t have all the time or money to make/buy the gifts I’d really like to.
Nonetheless, I still do my best which I know is enough for her.
(Love you most mom)

Eco-friendly gift ideas for Mother’s Day
Now, I’m not one to constantly buy for every single holiday. I try very hard to put thoughtful gift ideas together that don’t break our bank or hurt our planet.
Ideally, I’d be buying my mother one of these eco-friendly gift ideas for Mother’s Day.
The Leaf Kit | Leaf Shave– She bought me this kit one Christmas and to this day, it is my favorite zero waste alternative that I own. I feel so luxurious and bougie when I shave my legs now. Thanks mom, you’re the best.
Toups and Co. skin care– My mother is a big skin care advocate. Of course, I ignored her advice until I turned 27 but hey, better late than never. Toups and co is super clean, made with natural products of extremely high quality. I think she’d enjoy this reparative serum. She loves all kinds of serums and good skin stuff.
Dry Farms Wine- She doesn’t often drink wine anymore, but if she did, I’d get her this naturally yeasted, low sugar, low alcohol wine. She could have a few nice bottles on hand for when her friends come by or if family members are over. She would appreciate the ‘clean’ aspect of this wine as well because she’s keto, so, you know how keto people feel about clean food!
Natural loofah & pumice stone set– Aside from skincare, she’s very into pedicures and making sure her feet are nice. She lives at the beach, so it’s just one of those things. I may even invest in one of these myself since I go barefoot everywhere and sometimes my feet can be rougher looking than my husbands!
At the end of any day, we all can appreciate our mothers and what they have done for us. You know, birthing us into the world and all. Every day can be mothers day whether it is a hallmark holiday or not.
These eco-friendly gift ideas for mothers day are just that, ideas. A phone call or simply spending the day together is a good a gift as something that costs money. Whether you are a seasoned mother or a brand new mom, Happy Mother’s Day.
I hope every mother out there has a wonderful holiday and feels appreciated every day!
In gratitude for my own mother and the mother that I am,
Tayler
